Values Why?
Values aligned... what does that mean?
Knowing your values doesn't explain what do you
it explains how you *feel* about what you do.
I often lead activities to help people tune into their own values, when previously *values* have been something they've done with their organisations, or a more vague idea and assumption about what 'good people' or 'people like us' value.
Doing the solo work to dig into our own core values can be really tricky to start with, and lead to misunderstandings as we reflect on our own past behaviour
eg. "I always do x, so I must value y"... when that comes up we often notice there's resentment... and this is where we find our values... when we feel a certain way about a choice we make, that points to how aligned that choice was with our values.
Sometimes we have to make a choice that isn't aligned, or isn't fully aligned
eg. taking a job that's offered to pay bills when there are lots of grumbles about the company, or that sort of thing
but knowing that makes it easier to understand, to mitigate, and to choose the next goals which can feel better...
and that's the point - when we're living, working, buying, leading, in line with our values, our choices make us feel good, which in turn makes us happier, healthier, more fun to be around, more effective in our work, calmer if that's how we like to be - more of our favourite selves.
And what happens next is that we get more of those occasions, and sometimes we can even make a choice that doesn't fully make sense in our head but feels completely right, so we can confidently go for it, knowing we'll figure out how it fits.
If you've never considered your own core values, or think it might be time to have a deeper dive, message me and I'll send you a link to activity I find works best for most people - or have a google, there are loads of ways to do this ☀️
